Orland Park, IL Awards Nordic Energy Electricity Contract
Municipal electricity aggregation agreement helps residents save up to 43% off the utility
Oakbrook Terrace, IL, May 31 – In a move to help residents save
thousands on their electrical bills, Orland Park announced on May 8th that Nordic Energy Services would become
its electricity supplier of choice. Nordic Energy Services, LLC, an Illinois-based leading alternative energy supplier
serving Illinois and NW Indiana, participated in an open RFP process after the village passed a referendum on Tuesday,
March 20. Village of Orland Park voters approved the referendum by more than 65% giving permission to the village
to seek lower supply rates. The RFP process was overseen by the Northern Illinois Municipal Electric Cooperative (NIMEC)
and included multiple bids.
“The Village of Orland Park continues to play a leadership role in helping its residents and businesses conserve
energy and save money,” said Mayor Dan McLaughlin. “We took the savings message to the public and our residents
resoundingly approved electrical aggregation for the village,” the mayor added.
Under the terms of the agreement, residents will receive a two-year fixed rate of 4.823 cents/kWh, a savings up to 43%
off current utility rates. In addition 25% of the power supplied will come from green sources. “Nordic Energy is grateful
for the opportunity to serve the Village of Orland Park,” said James Deering, President of Nordic Energy Services.
“We are thrilled to serve the Southwest Suburban community and we look forward to delivering a multi-million dollar savings package.”
The Village of Orland Park has established an “opt-out” aggregation program that automatically enrolls residents and businesses
to receive their new, lower fixed rate. Residents currently with another provider, other than the utility, will not be enrolled.
Residents and businesses will be given the opportunity to “opt-out” of the program before it starts. Switching electric providers
is completely seamless and there will be no service interruption. ComEd will continue to be responsible for the delivery of electricity,
maintenance and will respond to power outages. “We’re looking forward to residents starting to see the savings on the supply portion
of their electric bills later this summer,” McLaughlin said. “Their bills will continue to come from ComEd and Nordic Energy Services
will be listed as the supplier on the bill,” said the mayor.
