Nordic Energy Awarded Hinsdale, IL Electricity Contract
Municipal electricity aggregation agreement helps residents save up to 40% off the utility
Oakbrook Terrace, IL, May 15 – On May 2, Nordic Energy Services was awarded the Hinsdale municipal
aggregation contract. Nordic Energy Services, LLC, an Illinois-based leading alternative energy supplier serving Illinois and NW Indiana,
participated in an open RFP process after the village passed a referendum in March. The RFP process was overseen by the Northern Illinois
Municipal Electric Cooperative (NIMEC) and included multiple bids.
“I'm so pleased with the bid results and look forward to our relationship with Nordic in bringing the residents of Hinsdale significant
savings on their electric bills,” stated Laura LaPlaca, Hinsdale Trustee and Chair of the Environmental and Public Service Committee.
“By acting quickly after the passage of the referendum, we hope to get that savings to residents as soon as mid-summer--a welcome
relief during air conditioning season!"
Under the agreement, residents can realize a savings of up to 40% off the utility rate. Residents will receive a fixed rate
of 4.6 cents per kWh. “We are proud to be Hinsdale’s electricity provider of choice as we are a local company and many of us at Nordic
have ties to the community,” said James Deering, President of Nordic Energy Services. “We look forward to helping the community save
up to approximately $3 million a year on their electricity expenses.”
The Village of Hinsdale has established an “opt-out” aggregation program that automatically enrolls residents and businesses to
receive their new, lower fixed rate. Residents currently with another provider, other than the utility, will not be enrolled.
Residents and businesses will be given the opportunity to “opt-out” of the program before it starts. Switching electric providers
is completely seamless and there will be no service interruption. ComEd will continue to be responsible for the delivery of electricity,
maintenance and will respond to power outages. Hinsdale residents and businesses will receive one electric bill per month from ComEd
that reflects their new electricity rate from Nordic Energy Services beginning in July.
